Mercedes-Benz E-Class: The safest car in the US

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers the best occupant safety levels of all passenger cars registered in the US. That was the conclusion reached by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after extensive accident analysis.

Between 2000 and 2003, the independent IIHS investigated how many drivers died in road accidents, and discovered that those driving Mercedes-Benz E-Class were far less likely to be killed in the case of an accident than those driving any other brands. The E-Class accounted for only 10 fatal accidents a year for every million vehicles registered, as opposed to more than 300 fatalities per million for certain other makes of car. According to the IIHS, the comparable average figure for all passenger cars is almost nine times higher than that of the E-Class.

These findings provide yet more impressive testimony to the effectiveness of Mercedes-Benz's practical safety concept. This concept is based on analysis of all kinds of traffic accidents to redefine vehicle safety as a whole. The solution encompasses everything from accident prevention by means of electronic assistance systems through occupant protection that adapts to the severity of the impact, to ensuring passengers will be rescued as quickly as possible after an accident.
